Black Rose Aeonium

This studio painting brings to life the beauty and translucence of the aeonium succulents known as the Black Rose. This family of flora range from green to a deep, dark purple. The plant that inspired this painting was of a purple variety where the older “petals” (leaves) were darkest, but the newer growth presented in shades from pink to fuchsia and peach to coral as they danced in the light. A brilliant chartreuse center pulled my attention all the way to the heart of the “flower.”

The joy of every artist is the ability to express what it feels like to be in that space. In “Black Rose Aeonium” my intention was to capture the essence of these “flowers” as though they had bloomed just for me – and now for you.
