This studio painting brings the viewer into the alluring center of the Stargazer Lily. The stem-like stamens consist of filaments tipped with the pollen-filled anther that reach tantalizingly out beyond the petals while the sticky pistil at the end of the centermost filament captures pollen carried in from visiting insects with which to fertilize the single egg hidden within. The lines and folds of its petals lead insects toward its nectar, while the filaments make sure the job of fertilization gets done. Nature designed the Stargazer Lily to be unabashedly seductive. I hope you have been as seduced by its beauty as I was while painting it.
