A River Runs Through It

This painting was started at a plein air workshop by Bill Davidson on a September morning in Montana. Fall colors had yet to reveal themselves, but the air was crisp, the water cool and the sun just cresting the ridge as it threw long shadows across the river. The view captured here was the scene at mid-to-late morning, so I stopped when it all changed too much. The studio work was fueled by my memories of how it felt to be in that space, the sensation of timelessness as I stood mesmerized by this river coursing through the woods.
